APC Assistantship

alabama productivity center If you're looking for a way to combine challenging, relevant career experience with the pursuit of an advanced academic degree, then the University of Alabama-based Alabama Productivity Center might have just the opportunity for you.

Background About APC

Begun in the mid 1980's as one of the first working academic-industrial partnerships in the United States, the Alabama Productivity Center is a joint venture of The University of Alabama, its College of Commerce and Business Administration and College of Engineering, and Alabama Power Company and other industries and businesses in the state are also partners in this effort. The mission of the Center is "to focus university resources on the enhancement of productivity and quality in Alabama firms through applied, problem-solving oriented research."

The Way It All Happens?

Students and faculty members from a variety of disciplines work together with specific business and manufacturing facilities in order to address actual design and operations problems in the workplace. At the same time, the students are working to pursue their MBAs, or master's degrees or Ph.Ds in such fields as industrial engineering, industrial management, applied math, management information systems, electrical engineering and more.

The Rewards

If you meet our qualifications, you could be eligible for a research assistantship at the Center-which would mean a full tuition grant and an additional stipend, currently a bottom-line value of up to $30,000 annually. (If you're pursuing a Ph.D. course of study, total value of the package is approximately $120,000.) The students learn through first hand experience how to apply state of the art techniques and tactics to actual company problems. In addition students are involved in project management, and learn how to deal with budgets, customer requirements and complaints, delivery and project deadlines.

Requirements

We're looking for people with technical backgrounds who are creative, self-motivated, who can demonstrate their ability to be innovative and who have outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Some work experience is beneficial.
